C'est la vie

For this fit, I was really inspired by Cher. At my old job, one of my managers always called me Cher, after Alicia Silverstone’s character in Clueless. I have always been a real girl’s girl and don’t get me wrong, I love a good street look, but I have to say feminine/romantic is my favorite. Even in high fashion, I favor couture over RTW, romance over urban. My favorite designers include Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Maison Valentino, 1960’s Hubert de Givenchy over Riccardo Tisci.

Anyways. I saw this jacket in Forever21 and had to get my hands on it. Everything else sort of came to me. I wanted this posh, PFW look but with cooler colors fit for the weather (Cher was always in brights).

One of my favorite prints ever is houndstooth. It’s just so trans-seasonal. This jacket was absolutely timeless in my personal opinion, and for $35 it couldn’t get any better. One thing I wanted to do this year was find myself and find my love for me and my style. Its sounds so superficial but how I dressed and looked was always tied to my mood. I feel happy when I can take pride in my fit. I felt this outfit was one of those “I’m back” moments.

The leather skirt was one of my favorite pieces. I got it from H&M last year and I think it’s the perfect piece of leather. Aside from the convenient real pockets (as opposed to sewed ones) it’s flattering. My FUPA isn’t on full display which I can appreciate from something that’s fitted and it’s not too short, so I don’t feel a breeze on my ass cheeks. The coat is also H&M, very lightweight and easy to wear, making it a good early spring duster.

My accessories include a beret which was not my initial intention. I wanted a conductor’s hat but failed to get one before my shoot. Luckily, my sister had this and it was even better. Conductor hats are all the rave right now so I really feel like it’s a current enough look to imitate without the concern that you’re a season behind (seeing as the hat was bought last fall). The bag I felt was perfect for this look. From the velvet, to the innocence of cosmic love, the bag is definitely one of my best purchases from Zara.

The shoe idea seems pretty basic, but I actually got the inspiration from Reem Acra’s F/W collection in which his girls wore sandals with phenomenally embellished socks. My only regret is not doing my fur sandals from Top Shop. For some reason I thought they’d throw the look off but I think they would’ve been just what the look needed.

It’s really important to take your time with yourself. As someone who went through a bout of depression, I can only advise you reach out. Being open helps, been if all you’re doing is talking, it helps. Put yourself first. The world is fragile so you have got make sure that you are steady, and that you are a priority. I cannot wait until the summer when I can do more of this thing I was had passion for!
